Anam Cara Healing Retreat Centre
Forging Sound is a Co-Creative Process
These days and nights will offer you an immersion into the world of sound from the beautiful perspective of living in co-creation with Nature.
Through our own hand crafted instruments, sound sessions and stories, skilled and sensitive guidance we will take you into a making process that comes to us through a lineage of sound forging as a sacred art – an act that can support life in every way.
To craft your own singing bowl is a rich and expansive experience of immersion into an ancient process of forging, working closely with the elements and the tools whilst bringing a new consciousness to every moment. You will scribe, cut, shape, fire and sink your own small singing bowl, made of copper, brass or bronze.
At the end of the workshop you will not only have a beautiful, fine frequency sound companion and ally, you will have gone through an embodied experience of personal and alchemical change yourself.
Please note that this is not a blacksmithing process but a ‘softer’ engagement with metal and fire through copper-smithing techniques developed over many years and honed to a fine level of expertise and always with acknowledgment of a sacred lineage and connection to sound as a fine healing pathway for assisting consciousness and greater wellbeing.
The instruments, singing bowls or bells are finely tuned through the process itself – one that invites both you, the maker, and the metal instrument to become a harmonic and coherent being. Working together with the fire, the tools and the metal, together you forge a relationship as you bring forward your own beautiful sound frequencies . . . An instrument that may not only support and assist your own life but that of others, from now and for our collective ongoing futures.
The workshop is suitable for people of all ages from as young as 12 and the older ageless. A level of fitness that allows you to use your hands with some dexterity and strength is helpful. Please get in touch with us if you have questions or concerns about the suitability of the work for yourself.

Our Venue – Anam Cara
Anam Cara is a beautiful rustic retreat centre on a hill above the Highland town Inverness- overlooking both the town and the countryside beyond.
Anam Cara offers us an optimum environment for the kind of deep and easeful listening and engagement with Sound and Nature and a beautiful sound space for entering into the mysteries of sound through our group attunements and Sound Weavings.
It provides a spaciousness for the work throughout that allows releasing and deepening: both qualities are essential components in the forging process itself.
It’s a most beautiful time of the year with the garden and the trees vibrant and lush, morning light rising through the sea mists below and a quietude only interrupted by early birdsong bringing in each new day.

What people say about our workshops and retreats . . .

Appreciation for the workshop and singing bowl following a three day residential
Thank you both for your generosity of spirit, deep insight and for creating such an unusual and inspiring way of connecting creativity, sound, soul, healing, and unifying hearts. It really was a lovely experience and we use the little singing bowl all the time.
recommendation from a five day bowl and bell residential
Beautiful instruments, beautiful people and I can’t recommend the workshops enough, such a therapeutic thing to do, and a lovely sound instrument at the end of it.

Residential Workshop Germany
Once more thank you so much for the unforgettable, inspiring days in Bollschweil. They were life changing.
small bowl acknowledgment after three day non-residential
We are enjoying so much our baby singing bowl. We named it “Raia Dourada” which means “Golden Ray”.
3 days of transformation
This, my friends, was a life-enhancing transformational 3 days with two sacred bowl whisperers, and their collaboration, Resounding Earth. Their singing bowls are a choir of pure resonant tones.
More about our environment
Anam Cara lies 600 feet above sea level and overlooks the city of Inverness with stunning southerly views towards the Monadhliath Mountains. Only three miles from the city centre yet surrounded by farm and woodland. The scope for walking is endless. The centre is set in seven acres of land which offers a delightful network of paths through a rich and varied landscape with extensive wooded areas and a sheltered fruit and vegetable garden.
The site itself has been reforested, regenerated and run by the current team for the last 20 years – transforming a bare hill into a beautiful lush woodland site, in which the project is now nestled.
It is one of the earlier small initiatives of regeneration and reforestation on a land whose natural whose natural forested hill were stripped bare over many generations – leaving only scrub, heathers and cashcrop conifer plantations.
As a beacon, Anam Cara nurtures a small flame for other regenerative processes.
Not far from the coast rising above the inlet of the Moray Firth and within close proximity of Findhorn Bay, it is well connected with land, sea and human endeavours.

Questions with Answers
Yes by all means. We can set up an arrangement with you.
Please get in touch to see what works for us both.
We would suggest that being in good health is always a great start but people who have physical challenges are welcome. If you have any doubts please check in with us directly before booking.
Forging a sounding instrument is not a blacksmithing process of heavy hammering of hot metal so you’ll not need to be a heavy weight in the area of muscular strength to actually forge. We have had people of ages from 11 – 80+ and in varying degrees of personal fitness attend, fully participate and make themselves a beautiful instrument in a way that includes their personal health situation.
To be living close to the land for a few days is a great way to let the Earth energies assist you to relax, open out and even consider new ways to approach things, including how you listen to and work with your physical body. We don’t advocate pushing or suffering in any way and so we can assist and advise you in choosing your metal so that you can have the bowl assist you in the process of it’s becoming.
We will be working outside for the actual forging and indoor sessions for the sound attunements, sessions and some of the teaching. Sitting can be at ground level or raised depending upon the needs.
In any instance, if you have any questions about your own capacity or capability please be in touch with us before you book.
Of course!

You do not need to have had any experience of crafting metal prior to coming. Nor do you need to be a musician or a sound healer to be touched deeply by the gift of forging a singing bowl.
If you are an experienced metal smith or worker let us know – from there we can guide you towards the type and sizes of metal available for you to work with.
If your child or children are keen to participate we can joyfully say yes! We’ve been blessed by young people attending and, with their families, not only making beautiful instruments, but forging time together as a family.
The making of the bowl is not a quick process and so we suggest that the age or temperament of the child determines the possibility.
We do feel that a four day forging time is quite alot for a child and so a level of personal maturity and independent ability to work is necessary. Our recommended age limit is 9 is the parent or guardian is willing to be one of the companions to the work itself. If you’re really drawn to this we suggest that from age 11 is preferred but of course every child is different so please be in touch with us to talk it through.
This workshop is specifically intended for the forging of a singing bowl or bell. (A bowl with a hole).
If you want to forge a gong with us we would always ask that you have made at least two singing bowls with us before approaching the forging of a gong in the style that we work. Please get in touch if you’d like to know more.
A few generous words about our work from artist, Lukas Mauermann, Tamera, Portugal
