The Invitation

the call from, and to, Iona

the call from, and to, Iona

We are all connected through the living web of golden frequencies . . . we call it a Golden Web . . . a biofield of nature’s own exquisite intelligence and life force that pulses and informs our every breath and action – if we allow it. These days and nights with the land and the energies of Iona – an ancient rocky mass – a rich composite of geological strata in the northern Atlantic Ocean that has been forged over millennia – has invited us to be with one of the rarer species that are growing on the island – the Tree Beings. From this island of fine energetic openings we are invited to visit and commune with the small groves of old Sycamores and a relatively new nursery of young native trees – an impulse of loving regeneration for the Future. Through these beings and with sound attunements, interspecies sensing and intuitive communications we will connect with the wider planetary sphere of trees – the Forests of Earth, Ancient, Current and Future. _ As a special treat we also include an ancient oak grove and stone circle on Mull as the start and welcome of our journey together. The invitation delights us and promises to surprise and enrich us all as we allow a period of continual engagement from this island portal of high amplitude to support our listenings, presence, prayer field, focus, bodies and our evolving relationships with the plant and other Nature realms. Through artistry, music, walking, and communications with the realms of Fae and the many other indigenous and elemental beings, we feel a powerful opportunity to receive and offer healed connective pathways to all.

The Flow of our Days and Nights

Everywhere on Iona is a place from where it seems possible to drop into one’s own nature and expand out to be met and embraced by the immediate reflection of Nature inherent in the wider landscape.
There will be times when we are called to visit the interior of the island and others when we may head to the far south and meet the labyrinth and the stones small and large at the beautiful Columba’s Bay.
Stomping across the peaty hills and heather cropped moorlands or a special pilgrimage to the Fairy’s Altar or a Dragon’s Cave, A shared hot flask of tea or nip of single malted whisky to offer the many other magical places and beings we may come across could come in handy.
It will be the land that calls us to where our connections to the wider biofield of Earth, so we are keen to be able to wander out over most of the days to meet the edges and the inner spaces of both the island and ourselves.
Although our days are few and we have a guiding impulse to be with the Trees you will find there are many ways to wander, to explore, to be free to enter a space that allows you to connect and commune with your own guiding impulses..
The Flow of our Days and Nights

    Widening the Field of Sensing

Being with the golden web . . .
Sound Weaving and attunement with the land will facilitate us to be with the planetary biofield that brings us to the forests of our Earth through the wood wide web of being and interconnectedness.
Sound and songs will be the gift that weaves many of our group times together with stories rising from the swathe of encounters and tales that have been gathered and lived over time. Each is a frequency carrier and connector opening us up to many of the other realms who co-create and facilitate pathways and possibilities for our communications with the Trees and Forests that are our special focus over these days.
There will also be a special time for you to experience a Sound Weaving in Oran’s Chapel where the stones, the nature beings and the night sky come together to join us in a unique and intimate ceremony of healing and profound connection.
    Widening the Field of Sensing

    Connections through Artistry and Attunement

Connecting with the Golden Web is our innate, or indigenous, way of Being. Giving yourself the space and the environment to fall into and open out to be with some of our wider relationships with Nature is key. Iona will grace us each day with a different and unique expression of these energies and openings.
One of the many blessings of these days is that we will have with us our friend and artist, Susan Morley. Susie has a profoundly beautiful connection with the ancient trees of Ireland and Ancient Britain and through them has a way of allowing her art and skills to be accessible for others. We are looking forward to some of the meetings with trees on the outer levels being made possible through some of her guiding hand and direct relationship with the many tree beings and spirits that live through her work.

    The Details

Coming to the island of Iona is a wonderful pilgrimage of journeying through some of the most beautiful landscapes – whether by train or car – the traveling will begin to wash away what you have left and prepare you for a nature rich immersion at a different kind of timing.
We have opted to start this Iona retreat time by meeting you at the Ferry terminal on Mull at Craignure. From here we will start our days together with a journey across Mull.
Our Gateway is the honouring of the ancient trees and stones at Lochbuie. It is one of Mull’s oldest stone circles embraced by Ben Buie, the guardian mountain in the north and opening the way towards the open sea through the Loch in the south. A perfect welcoming with groves of ancient oaks, hawthorns and others awaiting to greet us on the way.
By day’s end we will have arrived at the western edge of Mull at Fionnphort and made the short ferry crossing to Iona.
By evening you will have settled into a warm and waiting house, our home base for these days and nights together, Grianan – the House of the Sun.
    The Details

    Our Accommodation – Grianan

Our home hub will be at Grianan – house of the Sun A large family home that stands alone on the land that neighbours the Iona Abbey and is a constant presence to all that move through the waters of the Iona Sound.
Neither fancy nor plain, this house is an old lady that has seen better days – but her spirit and energy are strong and she carries a light and frequency not easily found in other places. So even though she is a little run down and in need of an upgrade, we feel that she facilitates those in her care in ways that modern houses do not.
The house accommodates eight to nine people comfortably in shared rooms and allows us to make it our home in a relaxed way for the days and nights we are together.
We have found that the loss of glamour and modernity has not negatively impacted our many hosted retreats over the past ten years because the house itself is a living being that opens itself to us and our guests in ways that support, protect and enliven the engagement we have with the whole island – as if it welcomes us and responds in every way possible to assist.
We invite each person staying in the house to share in the care of the home space by offering support with occasional clearing after meals, food preparations and awareness and care of the shared spaces.
If you would prefer to have a higher standard of accommodation and/or desire a single room, you can book a B&B nearby if you are fast. There are details about this in the FAQ section below.
    Our Accommodation - Grianan

    Meals

Our meals will be prepared at Grianan from as much locally sourced produce as we can access – organic, immediate and cooked with expertise and care and a focus on deliciousness! Essentially vegetarian menus with an openness to the wider wishes of the group if there is a wish to have a meal of freshly caught fish or locally raised lamb.
Special diets may be able to be accommodated such as gluten or dairy free but please contact us beforehand if there are any more rigorous personal needs.
We anticipate two meals a day at Grianan – breakfast and supper – with lunches being a DIY picnic or simple lunch such as a pot of hearty soup and bread depending on what the weather or plans for the day allow.
Please note – We anticipate that one evening meal or special lunch would be eaten at the local Argyll Hotel or the acclaimed Pizza window if it’s still open that week! This would not be included in the overall cost of the retreat and would be at your own choosing.

absolutely life changing retreat – 4 day residential

    Karen
Hi there, Gabriella and Heather! I just wanted to thank you for the absolutely life changing event that I have have just taken apart in From my first initial enquiry, I was met with compassion, open heartedness and patience which gave me the courage to commit to what has ended up being one of the most transformative and nourishing experiences of my whole life. I didn’t realize how empty I was until I was full again.

    Residential Retreat on Iona

    M. Brown
Six days so full of joys, insights, deep sharings, so, so full. . . I would love it if more people could join you for a retreat on that special, otherworldly place, experience the singing bowls, voices and instruments, the food, the being together in that tender honesty and compassion that you, Gabriella and Heather, offer and facilitate so generously from your hearts.

    Co-creation with Nature on Iona

    D.C. UK
Walking in this stunning landscape with you both was a treat. You showed us the magic in the land from the wondrous Rock beings to the Fairy Kingdom, walking through portals to the sacredness that lies in the land and sea. . . and to swim in those crystal clear seas and gather healing stones from the otherworldly Columba Bay. . . so much magic! These experiences are such a feast for the soul, heart and eyes and will on in my heart forever.

      What’s it like on Iona?

As an amplified field of energies, Iona invites a certain level of fitness for us as visitors. Fitness both physical and energetic.

The general terrain can be quite physically challenging to get around. There is much walking to be done – whether from the ferry landing to the house itself upon arrival, or daily wanderings and hiking over the unpaved and rolling moorlands and coastal paths.

All walking is exposed to the elements and, as this is the northern climes of Albion where the elements are able to shift and change at a moments notice, wet weather is a reality . . .  as is the possibility of long night skies of awe filled wonder that can have us out into the setting sun with our coats and scarves on.

Equally some of the finest blue sky days have come to us when we have been there in September so you can anticipate a wide range of encounters with the weather beings!

Iona can also be a demanding place simply because of the energies and frequencies of the island itself.

We will be living and co-creating in and with a gloriously amplified field where we are given and blessed by many heart opening and transforming opportunities . . .  gifts that carry the frequencies of pure, unadulterated Nature and Love.

For more about transport and mobility on the island see the additional section of questions below.

Please get in touch if you have any additional questions: [email protected]

      What's it like on Iona?

Some additional questions you might have

Who is this retreat suitable for?

If you are hearing, sensing, loving the sound of this invitation then it’s most likely for you!

If you have any doubts send us an email.

For the weather conditions and the amount of walking that is on offer you may like to have a certain level of fitness. We can envisage however that you may also find that staying close to home base and entering your own quiet immersive time with the land and the sea that Grianan offers will give you the nature connection and attunement opportunities you may be seeking. We see no need to insist that you go out onto the higher lands and sands of the wider shores of the island to be able to participate fully in the retreat and the special focus we are offering.

If you have questions about this please be in touch with us directly.

Is there any single or alternative accommodation available?

The rooms at Grianan are limited to twin share accommodation.

If you would like to opt for a single room or a higher standard of accommodation it may be possible for you to sleep somewhere else on the island and be with us at Grianan for the non-sleeping hours and meals that we gather together.

These are two B & B houses that are close by and at the time of writing may still be available but we recommend you act fast. Nearby B& B contacts are

Bishops House: Margaret Mc Donald: tel +44 1681 700329
      Calva: Janette Tindal tel: +44 1681 700340

You may also find that the larger hotels – St Columba Hotel and The Argyll Hotel may have rooms available for this period but please know that there is a longer walk to get to Grianan for our daily sessions.

Please let us know when you make your booking that you wish to stay somewhere else. We will arrange for the financial adjustment.

How do I get to Craignure and/or Iona?
There are several ways to arrive on Mull. As a foot passenger the best option is to travel from Oban having arrived by train from Glasgow.
You can also drive and cross on one of the two ferries – one from Oban and the other from the northern side of Mull at Lochaline.
We recommend staying the previous night at Oban or arriving at Mull and staying somewhere near to Craignure the night before.
Here are a couple of helpful links to give you an idea and help to plan your journeys
      Ferries from Oban to Mull
      Fionnphort Iona ferry timetable
There is no booking required on this ferry. It usually links up with the bus arriving from Craignure and all details apply to the return journey to Craignure.
Is there transport on the island?

There is one road on the island that can take you both north and south, but only until the houses stop. Then there are footpaths to some of the more remote places, sites and beaches.
For anyone who would welcome support through driving to some of the island locations that are accessible by road there is one taxi on the island. A ride costs £10 for up to four passengers. It also offers a tour of 45 minutes duration that costs £40 for up to four passengers.  The house, Grianan, is about 200m through uneven ground, a grassy field usually kept low by the grazing cows, off the paved road.

      Can I stay longer?

The completion time for this four day retreat is on the Thursday morning.

It may be possible for you to stay for another day and night at Grianan with us for an additional contribution of some assistance as we prepare to close and clean the house at the end of the week. For this we would ask that you are willing to offer a few hours general support for cleaning and packing on the Friday morning. and we can offer a night’s accommodation, some evening meal and a breakfast. We would also ask for a financial contribution towards your bed, supper and breakfast of £40.

There may be other accommodations on offer on the island for you to come earlier or to stay longer if you’d like more time on Iona. Try this site for more information about accommodation or see the FAQ above that pertains to other accommodation options.

How many people will we be?

We are aiming for a group size (including us) of 9 – 12 people.

I can’t wait to be there! How can I secure my booking?

Email us at [email protected] or [email protected]

Or place your deposit or full payment via the links on this page and then email us to let us know.

This is a small group special event so the few remaining places could fill up very quickly.

      How do I get there?

We’ve included all the necessary links to help you plan and orient for a truly beautiful journey in the Details section above.

A snippet of sound in co-creation with Nature recorded in Oran’s Chapel in 2022.

Who are your Hosts and Guides?

We are Gabriella Kapfer and Heather Cowen and have been co-creating for more than fifteen beauty filled and rich years.
Our energies weave a finely balanced offering of sonic gifts for healing and transformative processes in many aspects of life.
Through our Sound Forging workshops and our Sound Weaving sessions we are blessed to travel widely to co-create and align with Nature’s frequencies, clearing and opening to greater connection and communion for those who are present physically and in the non-physical realms.
Our foundation for everything we offer – whether it is residential retreats, forging workshops, facilitating community events and growth processes as part of evolutionary shifts, is to bring about a coherent field through which all beings may resound through the energies of pure Love and greater well being in relation with Earth and the wider Cosmic alignment of these extraordinary times.
Our creative work in the world is known as Resounding Earth. Through our musical partnership we are sometimes known as Sapphra, a cosmic nectar that is often available through the confluence of our unique energies and sounds.
Our Iona events are very dear to us as it was on Iona in 2009 that we first allowed our voices and our shared dreamings to come together and we have been traveling the world and hosting many workshops and retreats ever since.
It will be a privilege and a joy to share some of what we know about Iona and to allow your own relationship with this fine, open land between the veils of much that is solid to fall away and welcome you to your own unique path and possibly calling from your soul’s essence.

We very much hope to see you in September!
